It's January 31st. Tomorrow I will start a 30-day diet and fitness regimen based on the book "Making the Cut" by Jillian Michaels. I bought this book about six months ago along with a couple other books by Jillian. I like how she approaches the science of weight loss and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Over the last year, I have been trying to get to my 'goal' weight. It just isn't happening and I know the problems.
1. I love food! Put it in front of me and I'll eat it.
2. I don't enjoy exercise just for the sake of exercise. I grew up playing sports, but during college and veterinary school, I made academics a priority.
3. I have a serious lazy streak. If I don't have a set plan, I won't just spontaneously eat well and exercise.
I do have positives going for me. Thanks to ten years in the military, I am not that overweight and I have a good level of fitness. I just have terrible habits in general and nothing I have tried in the past has stuck for very long after I've lost 10 to 15 pounds. I find myself doing better for the few months right before an Army Physical Fitness Test, but then once I take the test, I fall off the wagon. That happened again this year. Right now I am only one pound over the Army's standard for a woman of my age and height. Mentally, I am tired of this rollercoaster and ready to find a new way to incorporate a healthy diet and exercise into my regular habits. I have a supportive husband who is also in the military and a 3 year old daughter that I want to set a good example for. And of course, there is an event this year that I want to look my best at. So it's time for me to do something different and I'm hoping this book will help me reach my goals.
To start, I have to record my beginning fitness test score and body measurements. I am using a scale that measures body fat, water, etc.
